Firefighters battle blaze at Sivyer Steel, Bettendorf

UPDATE: The Bettendorf Fire Department says the fire at Sivyer Steel Casting started around 9:04 p.m. inside the structure and quickly spread throughout the inside.

The Rock Island Arsenal Fire Department, Davenport Fire Department, LeClaire Fire Department, Riverdale Fire Department, Moline Fire Department and Medic EMS also responded to the scene and helped to eventually extinguish the fire.

“Heavy fire was noted inside the structure and through the roof as the first company arrived,” a news release from the Bettendorf Fire Department on Tuesday morning said. “There were workers inside the building at the time of the incident, but all of them were able to evacuate the building and were accounted for by management personnel on scene.”

The State Fire Marshal Office was contacted by Bettendorf Fire to assist with the investigation. The Bettendorf Fire Department said it will remain on the scene until the investigation can be completed.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

EARLIER UPDATE: Smoke could be seen for some distance late Monday as firefighters battled a blaze at Sivyer Steel Casting LLC, 225 33rd St., Bettendorf.

Plumes of smoke billowed up from the building shortly before 11 p.m. Our Local 4 News crew saw flames coming from the top of the building where at least two ladder trucks were on the scene.

Dozens of firefighters and police officers were at the scene, and police had at least one drone in the air. MidAmerican crews also arrived to assist.

Train traffic was temporarily stopped on the tracks on 33rd Street near the facility.
