P-Valley has grown to be one of our favorite shows. Based on Katori Hall’s 2015 play Pussy Valley, it’s a drama series that focuses on a group of employees of the Chucalissa, Mississippi strip club The Pynk. It premiered in 2020 to widespread acclaim, drawing rave reviews from fans and critics and quickly earning a season two renewal.

Unfortunately, it seems there could be a long wait for new episodes due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has caused delays on many other productions. But at least, there are programs out there to tide you over until they come out. Find seven shows like P-Valley, here.

‘Atlanta’

Created by writer and rapper Donald Glover (also known as Childish Gambino), Atlanta is an FX series that centers on two cousins attempting careers in the rap industry. It premiered in 2016 to positive reviews for its cast, comedic factor, and writing, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it an impressive 97% rating.

It’s been a while since the show has released new episodes, but by the time you watch the first two seasons, perhaps the third one will be out.

‘Empire’

A musical drama series, Empire is a FOX show about a music mogul whose family is trying to gain control of his label Empire Entertainment. The show premiered in 2015 to good reviews and aired for six seasons before concluding in 2020.

‘Greenleaf’

In the words of IMDb, Greenleaf is all about “the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch, dark secrets, and lies.” It enjoyed a five-season run on OWN before ending in 2020. But the good news is, there’s a spinoff in the works.

‘Insecure’

Created by Issa Rae, Insecure follows best friends Issa Dee and Molly Carter as they navigate life and love in the complex world of Los Angeles. The show debuted on HBO in 2016 and has enjoyed several critically-acclaimed series since, even earning eight Emmy nominations in 2020. The fifth and final season is expected to air sometime between late 2021 and 2022.

‘Pose’

The brainchild of American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy, Pose is an award-winning FX drama that focuses on the iconic New York ballroom scene and those involved in it. There are two seasons out at the time of this writing and a third one in production.

‘Power’

Like P-Valley, Power is also a Starz drama that follows James St. Patrick, a club owner who also runs a drug empire under the name Ghost. His end goal is to leave the game and “go legit.” But when you’re in as deep as he is, it’s hard to get out.

Power premiered in 2014 and ran for six seasons before ending in 2020. But there are a number of spinoffs happening, starting with Power Book II: Ghost. Power creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp said her plan is for Power content to be available year-round.

‘The Chi’

Debuting in 2018, The Chi is a Showtime series created by Lena Waithe that follows a group of people from the Southside of Chicago. Like P-Valley, it features a complex cast and explores themes such as poverty, racism, and abuse, among others. There are three seasons out so far and the fourth seems to be in the works.

‘Twenties’

Also created by Lena Waithe, Twenties is a BET series about a group of friends trying to make it in Hollywood. It’s not only good, but there’s only one season out, meaning it’s super easy to catch up on.

By the time you’re finished with these shows, perhaps we’ll have P-Valley Season 2! Here’s hoping.
