For the first time in the 35-year history of the Rock Island mayor’s “State of the City” address, Mayor Mike Thoms brought the annual update to Bally’s Casino Quad Cities Monday morning. For many years, the address was presented to a joint meeting of Rock Island Kiwanis and Rotary clubs at the QC Botanical Center, Rock Island, and Thoms thanked the organizations for hosting it over the years. He just wanted to open it up to a larger venue, with the opportunity for more people to attend – those who did included the mayors of Moline, East Moline, and Coal Valley, some Rock Island aldermen and department directors.
